What is it that makes watercolors so wonderful? I have a hard time deciding. Is it the softness of the blended colors? The texture of the paper? The way highlights are lifted out to help form depth and shadow? Or, is it because of all of these wonderful features blend together to create a unique, one-of-a-kind, look and feel.
If you love watercolors as much as I do, then you are going to adore the work of Nicole Keaton. To learn more about her and her brilliant work, keep reading.
Nicole, tell us a bit about yourself:
My name is Nicole Keaton. I have a 4-year-old and 2-year-old and an awesome adventurous husband.
We love to travel, have new adventures, camp, play hide and seek, go on bike rides, and watch hours of “Little Baby Bum” (it’s on Netflix but if you haven’t seen it you aren’t missing much! )
When you need musical inspiration, who do you turn the volume up for?
Music and painting totally go hand in hand for me! My best painting happens when my favorite music is playing in my headphones. You are welcome to check out my Spotify playlist “all the songs Nicole has ever liked”.
It includes Journey, ABBA, Collective Soul, show tunes, Taiwanese rap, and Jack Johnson.
What do you create and what makes it so special?
I paint 6×6 inch watercolor paintings of travel themes. I came up with this idea because basically, I don’t travel half as much as I’d like and feel like painting gives me that glorious outlet. I love researching places around the world and bringing it into my home through paint.
I first began private art lessons at 8 years old. Since then I’ve had long periods of serious work and long periods of painting nothing at all! Art creation seems to ebb-and-flow throughout my life.
Where do you create?
I paint all over my house. That’s the beauty of watercolors. Easy transport and easy cleanup!
