Lauren, introduce yourself!
Hello! My name is Laurel and I am the owner and designer at Galley and Fen. I am a mom to my 6-month old baby James and a wife to my best friend, Andrew. I graduated with a degree in interior design which sparked my interest in finding and designing timeless pieces for the home.
When I’m not designing homes or products I am mountain biking, skiing, or cleaning spit-up off my clothes and I wouldn’t want it any other way!
Tell us about what you sell and what makes it so special?
As I began designing homes, I started looking for accessories that felt “special” and unique in the home. I kept running into cheap accessories that could be found in any home and lacked the uniqueness and meaning I was looking for.
Galley and Fen was born out of a desire to provide quality, unique, and affordable accessories for the kitchen.
How would you describe your creative process?
All of the products we sell are designed by me. I design, then send them off to be made by hand. Each product is slightly different than the other, making every piece unique and one-of-a-kind.
I only work with craftspeople who love what they do and share a passion for creating quality products.
Tell us about your creations.
We sell everything from copper kettles, to linen tablecloths, to handmade walnut cutting boards. Our copperware is unique because it is made from 100% copper, sealed and crafted by hand. It is rare to find pure 100% copperware sold for the price we offer.
Our copper tea kettle is one of our best sellers and gives a unique, timeless look to the kitchen.
Our tablecloths are beautifully woven out of 100% linen and designed to stand the test of time. Featuring four classic patterns, these linens are machine washable and can be used on any occasion.
What mistakes or setbacks have you had, and what did you learn from them?
I’ve made so many mistakes and continue to make mistakes. I’ve learned that quality trumps quantity every time.
I would rather sell fewer well-made, beautiful products than sell a lot of low-quality pieces.
What inspires your creativity?
My husband and I have always been inspired by the English countryside. A year ago, we were fortunate enough to spend 3 weeks in Europe, mainly visiting the countrysides, cottages, and historic towns.
We are convinced that the English countryside is the most idyllic setting in the world and use those design principles found in England to create products.
